Sydney Basketball Takes Over Afterpay Arena as Flames Join Kings for Double-Header

The Sydney Flames will take to the big stage at Afterpay Arena on Sunday 8 November as part of a blockbuster Sydney basketball double-header alongside the Sydney Kings.

With two teams, one arena and thousands of fans expected through the doors, the first of three double headers this season promises to be one of the biggest celebrations of basketball in Sydney this season.

The Flames are calling on their supporters to fill the arena and help create an unforgettable home-court atmosphere.

Flames head coach Renae Garlepp said the double-header is a special occasion for the club and its fans.

“The double-header with the Kings at Afterpay Arena is always such a special day. It’s so much fun to have both teams in one arena and all the fans come out,” Garlepp said.

“I’d love to see as many Flames fans or basketball fans in Sydney come out and support us and get there for the double-header. It’s going to be a really big day, and it’s always a special day for our group.”

For guard Agnes Emma-Nnopu the occasion represents another opportunity for the Flames to showcase their growth in front of a major Sydney crowd. Emma-Nnopu said the team is excited to experience the bigger stage with its expanding fan base.

“It’s just a really different atmosphere,” Emma-Nnopu said.

“We’ve all gone out and watched the Kings play there, and it’s a bigger arena. With the new fans we have, it’s going to be cool to see it packed out. I’m really excited for everyone to go out there and experience that.”

Emma-Nnopu said the Flames’ early-season chemistry has been a highlight, with the group building connection quickly across the opening rounds.

“We have a really fun group on and off the court,” she said. “Getting those first few games under our belt and getting to know each other has been really helpful. We’re continuing to build, and we want to show our fans what we’re capable of.”

The Flames enter the double-header with momentum and a deep, connected roster, with Emma-Nnopu among the players bringing energy, defence, rebounding and championship experience to the group.

Fans are encouraged to arrive early, wear Flames colours and be part of a landmark day for basketball in Sydney.
